Free forum hosting
Free forum hosting for 30 days, with no card details
A complete hosting account with one-click MyBB, phpBB and SMF, on your own domain, with no adverts inserted into your boards. Then £0.99 a month if you want to keep it — which is the honest version of “free forum hosting”.
Exactly what “free” means here
- Free for 30 days. A complete hosting account with nothing held back — no feature restrictions during the trial.
- No card details required to start. You can build and run your forum for the whole 30 days without giving us any payment information.
- Nothing can be charged automatically, because we have nothing to charge. Payment details are only taken if you decide to continue.
- Then £0.99/month if you choose to carry on. That is the ongoing price — it does not rise after the first year.
- No setup fee and no hidden charges of any kind.
- You bring your own domain. Domains aren’t included, so you’ll need one you already own or register at any registrar.
What “free forum hosting” usually means
Search for free forum hosting and you will find four business models wearing the same word. It is worth being able to tell them apart, whether or not you end up here.
- Advert-funded. The host places banners on your boards. Your members see them, you do not control them, and removing them costs more than 99p a month.
- Subdomain lock-in. Your forum lives at yourname.somehost.com. It works, until you want to move — at which point every link, bookmark and search result you have earned belongs to them.
- Feature-gated. Free, but no email, no SSL, no database exports, no file access. Fine as a demo; a problem the moment your community matters to you.
- A real trial. A full account for a fixed period, then a price. Less exciting, and the only one of the four where the incentives point the same way as yours.
Traxio is the fourth. Thirty days, everything switched on, no payment details held, then 99p a month. There is no advertising, no subdomain, and nothing withheld during the trial that a paying customer gets.
Advert-funded services are the right choice for some communities, especially if the budget is genuinely zero. We compare the best known of them fairly in forum hosting compared, including ProBoards and Forumotion.
What you can build in the free 30 days
Enough to know whether you want to keep going. In an afternoon you can have MyBB, phpBB or SMF installed, a theme applied, boards created, anti-spam configured, registration emails working from your own domain, and your first handful of members posting.
A month is also long enough to find out the thing nobody tells you before you start: whether you enjoy running a forum. Tending a community is a real commitment, and it is much better to discover that for free.
Where it stops being enough
The plan has one plan's worth of resources: 3GB of storage and 100GB of bandwidth a month — tens of thousands of visits for a typical forum, depending on how image-heavy your theme and attachments are. Storage is usually the one you notice first: forum text is tiny, but member uploads and attachments add up. Extra disk is £0.99/month per 5GB and extra bandwidth £0.99/month per 50GB.
If your community grows past what add-ons sensibly cover, the honest answer is a VPS or a larger plan, and your data exports in full so moving is a copy job. That is a better outcome than a host quietly throttling you.

Questions about the free period
Is free forum hosting actually free?
Here it is free for 30 days with no card details taken, then £0.99 a month. Hosts that offer forums free indefinitely are paid another way: adverts placed on your boards, a subdomain you cannot take with you, or storage limits low enough that the free tier is really a trial with no end date. Knowing which of those applies is the whole question.
What is the catch with the 30 days?
There is no card on file, so nothing can be charged and no cancellation is needed. The genuine catches are these: you must own a domain name, the plan has published limits of 3GB of storage and 100GB of bandwidth a month, and Traxio support covers hosting rather than your forum software.
Can I get free forum hosting without a domain name?
Not here. Traxio does not offer forums on a traxio.uk subdomain, because a community at someone else's address is not really yours. A domain costs about £8–£12 a year from any registrar and it is the single best thing you can spend money on for a forum — it survives every host change you ever make.
Is free forum hosting good enough for a real community?
For a new or small-to-medium forum, yes — this is the same account and the same servers paying customers use, with nothing held back during the trial. What it is not suited to is a very busy board with heavy image attachments, which will outgrow shared hosting however it is priced.
Will there be adverts on my free forum?
No. Traxio does not inject adverts, branded footers or tracking into hosted sites at any point, during the trial or after it. If you want to run your own adverts on your forum, that is entirely your business.
What happens to my forum if I stop paying?
The account is suspended 7 days after the unpaid invoice date and terminated after 14. You are never charged, because no card details are held. Take a DirectAdmin backup before the termination date and your whole community — files and database — imports into any other DirectAdmin or cPanel host.
