Why MyBB suits a new community
MyBB is the lightest of the three big PHP forum packages, and it is the one that assumes the least about you. The admin panel is organised the way a person would organise it, the defaults are sensible enough to launch with, and the template system can be edited from the browser without learning a build process.
For a first forum that matters more than feature counts. The failure mode of a new community is almost never “the software could not do it” — it is the owner losing momentum in the admin panel before anyone has posted.

Honest notes on MyBB
